Prepulse inhibition
  • PPI measurement in human.
  • PPI and startle reflex apparatus for mice
THE PROCESS IN WHICH A STARTLE MAGNITUDE IS REDUCED WHEN THE STARTLING STIMULUS IS PRECEDED BY A LOW-INTENSITY PREPULSE.
Prepulse inhibition of the startle reflex response; Prepulse facilitation; Prepulse Inhibition; Prepulse Inhibition of ASR; Prepulse habituation
Prepulse inhibition (PPI) is a neurological phenomenon in which a weaker prestimulus (prepulse) inhibits the reaction of an organism to a subsequent strong reflex-eliciting stimulus (pulse), often using the startle reflex. The stimuli are usually acoustic, but tactile stimuli (e.
Social inhibition
DELIBERATE AVOIDANCE OF SOCIAL INTERACTION
Social Inhibition; Social inhibitions; Moral inhibition; Inhibition (social); Psychological inhibition; Behavioral inhibition
Social inhibition is a conscious or subconscious avoidance of a situation or social interaction. With a high level of social inhibition, situations are avoided because of the possibility of others disapproving of their feelings or expressions.
Vagal maneuver
  • Parasympathetic nervous system mediated by vagal innervation
Vagal maneuvers
A vagal maneuver is an action used to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system by activating the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the longest nerve of the autonomic nervous system and helps regulate many critical aspects of human physiology, including heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, and digestion through the release of acetylcholine.

Wikipedia

Vagus nerve

The vagus nerve, also known as the tenth cranial nerve, cranial nerve X, or simply CN X, is a cranial nerve that carries sensory fibers that create a pathway that interfaces with the parasympathetic control of the heart, lungs, and digestive tract. It comprises two nerves—the left and right vagus nerves—but they are typically referred to collectively as a single subsystem. The vagus is the longest nerve of the autonomic nervous system in the human body and comprises both sensory and motor fibers. The sensory fibers originate from neurons of the nodose ganglion, whereas the motor fibers come from neurons of the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus and the nucleus ambiguus. The vagus was also historically called the pneumogastric nerve.
